At the Sunshine Coast Technical Trade Training Centre (SCTTTC), Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) is a core part of our training model and a key pathway to employment for our students. Most of our courses require students to complete 80 hours of industry work experience as part of their qualification, with some—such as Retail Cosmetics—requiring 40 hours.
This real-world experience gives students the opportunity to apply their skills in authentic settings, build valuable industry connections, and often leads directly to part-time or full-time employment. Many of our students are offered jobs as a result of their work placements—turning classroom learning into meaningful careers.
Work experience is not just a requirement—it’s a launchpad for your future.
How It Works:
Step 1: Find a Host Employer
Choose a workplace in your industry area (excluding family-run businesses).
Step 2: Complete the Paperwork
Fill in your Work Experience Agreement Form (signed by student, parent/carer, and employer) and return it by the due date for your selected holiday block.
Step 3: Do Your Placement
Get real-world experience during the school holidays and complete your logbook and a photo for your portfolio.
Step 4: Submit Your Logbook
Return your completed and signed logbook in the first 2 weeks of the next term.
