The CQ University Start Uni Now (SUN) program offers a range of university level study options for high school students interested in pursuing a career in the field of built environment and design (including building design, construction and surveying.
The following SUN units are available for study:
This unit (BLAR11049) introduces students to elementary communication concepts that are relevant to a career in built environment.
This unit (BLAR11050) provides students with an introduction to the procedures, principles and methods of construction used for residential buildings and other structures designated by the National Construction Code (NCC).
This unit (BLAR11033) provides knowledge development in relation to the properties of building materials.
This unit (BLAR11045) is an introduction to the impacts of building design and construction sectors on the environment.
Completion requirements: On successful completion of one or more of the above units, students can benefit from direct entry into one of the following CQUniversity Bachelor courses, and gain subsequent credit towards their chosen course:
Bachelor of Building Design
This course produces graduates capable of designing, documenting and providing contract administration for residential and commercial buildings.
Bachelor of Construction Management
This courses produces construction management graduates capable of managing and controlling complex construction projects.
Bachelor of Surveying and Certification
This course produces graduates capable of assessing building documentation for codes and standards compliance and inspecting staged works on all classes of buildings, as defined by the Building Code of Australia (BCA).
SUN is a CQUniversity initiative which allows students in Years 11 and 12 the opportunity to study first year university units whilst still in high school. As well as gaining valuable insight into university life, students will also be eligible for a number of other benefits:
- Direct Entry: Students may be eligible to apply for direct entry into their chosen bachelor course on completion of high school.
- Financial savings: Students can undertake their first SUN unit at no cost. Unit fees for subsequent units are significantly reduced compared to the fee paid as an undergraduate student.
- QCE points: Students who successfully complete their SUN unit will be eligible for additional points towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
- Credit Transfers: Gain credit for each SUN unit completed toward the Bachelor of Building Design and reduce the number of units to be studied post high school.
